Putting down the first impressions of using the Vivaldi browser off a Raspberry Pi system on a chip computer. The one I am using is the Pi 3, strongest of the boards so far. The Vivaldi seems to do quite nicely as a browser compared to my previous experiences with either Firefox or Chrome, both of which could not handle too many tabs open at the same time. My CPU usage is low, 12 to 15% while typing this and four tabs open. Watching the YouTube video tutorials for first time Vivaldi users was also a good experience. I like videos that are less than one minute long. The blog functionality is nice with spellcheck underlining potentially incorrect spelled words. A quick right click gives options for the correct spelling. Thanks.
I was also surprised to see the Chrome plugins work on Vivaldi. For example, I like to see what my WiFi signal strength is, so I use Speedtest and it works within the Vivaldi browser. So far I am very impressed with this browser for such a weak computer. Always on the lookout for the best browser, as they tend to evolve over time to support real users. Explorer, then Chrome, now is Vivaldi my new default? Time will tell.
Hope this has helped others interested in running Vivaldi on Raspberry Pi computers. I may do another test with a Pi 0W just to see if Vivaldi still holds up on an even slower, single core cpu computer.
Is there a special download or simply the current linux version loaded. I would like to try it on my Orange pi’s.
Looking to use Vivaldi as my secure browser in regards to my multimedia/game sever/transcoder for my actual & virtual networks!! It is time for me to enter into the fray in 2018, and show the Tru power of all SOC’s!!!! I have some experimental ideas that may just work with the correct software!!! And save us hobbyists and average every day consumer a whole lot of money!! Wish me luck!! If u need the HookUp but cannot afford the high-end equipment & prices, hit me up and I can see what I can do help you achieve maximum per-formance for the hardware/software you already have!!! 😎😉🤔😏
The classic (true) Opera with Presto-engine would have been my first choice as webbrowser (also mail client ect.). But now we have the heavy ones, best choice of them seems t be Vivaldi.
— Yes, time will tell.
It’s very interesting seeing such a complex program like Vivaldi run well on the Raspberry Pi systems and others like it. It goes to show that if someone puts the work to it, they can make their products work on slower machines. Keep it up, Vivaldi team ^_^
nice work on the pi 3 setup. I would like to try my hand at getting one running.
Vivaldi is a great browser I find too. Interesting to hear how it performs on the Raspberry Pi compared to others. Thanks
